"I don't want people to know me. I want them to believe my version."
(William Shatner)

There are people that really live by doing the right thing, but I don't know what that is, I'm really curious about that. I'm really curious about what people think they're doing when they're doing something evil, casually. I think it's really interesting, that we benefit from suffering so much, and we excuse ourselves from it.

"And I'm afraid, in this day and age, trust, which I count so, you know, I love loyalty. I love trust."

"I love the idea of the teachings of Jesus Christ and the beautiful stories about it, which I loved in Sunday school and I collected all the little stickers and put them in my book. But the reality is that organised religion doesn't seem to work. It turns people into hateful lemmings and it's not really compassionate."

"We live in an age, in an era where there is so much negativity, there is so much violence in the world, there is so much unrest and people are at war, that I wanted to promote the word love and red signifies love."

"The whole point of being in this business and being blessed and being successful is that you're able to do things for your friends or your family, which means that they can have something special in their lives, too."

"The worst thing you can do to a child, and I've seen it happen so many times, is the silver spoon."

"There is nothing wrong with going to bed with someone of your own sex. People should be very free with sex, they should draw the line at goats."

"I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary."

"As human beings, we need to know that we are not alone, that we are not crazy or completely out of our minds, that there are other people out there who feel as we do, live as we do, love as we do, who are like us."

"Like family, we are tied to each other. This is what all good musicians understand."

"If you tell kids they can't have something, that's what they want."

"I can't think of one person I've ever met who didn't like some type of music."

"Don't make music for some vast, unseen audience or market or ratings share or even for something as tangible as money. Though it's crucial to make a living, that shouldn't be your inspiration. Do it for yourself."

"I really wish I was less of a thinking man and more of a fool not afraid of rejection."

Billy Joel
